This wall sculpture was commissioned by an art lover and collector who also happens to be an avid scuba diver with a love for the ocean. She wanted an art piece reminiscent of the magic in and under the surface of the sea. This work is composed of small disks of resin mixed with ink, mica dust, paint, and rubbing alcohol, collaged onto 4 layers of plexiglass and housed in a custom-milled poplar and birch box frame. This installation was inspired by the cool marine colors of the sea- that magical place that gave this buyer, and many of us, refuge during those long months of Covid lockdown. The texture, palette, and depth pulls from the ocean’s spume, spray, and mist, as the blue and green swirls of the ocean’s waves continuously bloom and then dissolve into the sand. This creation captures and celebrates the rolling and bobbing of the surf in the churning white tide, rising and falling with the lather, ebbing and flowing amidst the simmering formations of webbed sea suds.
